What are the courses about?

Drop-ins
At the drop-ins we have computers and support available for people who want to do job searches, CVs, letters or updating their Universal Credit journals. The drop-ins are one-offs (unlike the courses, which run for several weeks), so you don’t need to make a regular commitment.

Computer Confidence
This course covers:
• creating documents and using Word
• sending emails
• searching the internet
• staying safe online

Whether you are new to computers or want to brush up on your skills, everyone is welcome.

Job Club

This course covers:
• job searching
• improving your job applications
• preparing for job interviews

There will be time built in for job searches and working on applications.

Substance Misuse

This course covers:
• alcohol awareness
• drug awareness
• help to give up smoking

Healthy Eating
This course covers: 

  • eating a balanced diet
  • good diets for different medical conditions
  • storing food and cooking safely

Vouchers for fruit and vegetables are available to people coming on this course.

Stress Management

  • Recognising stress
  • The causes of stress
  • How to manage stress

Tenancy Skills
A course for new tenants, experienced tenants who want to share their knowledge and anyone in between. It covers:

  • budgeting for bills
  • the landlord’s point of view
  • repairs and other problems
  • being good neighbours and managing conflict

Maintaining a successful tenancy
A course for new tenants, experienced tenants who want to share their knowledge and anyone in between. It covers:

  • The skills needed to maintain a tenancy
  • The sources of support available
  • The landlord’s point of view
  • How to resolve neighbour disputes

Money Skills

  • How to manage a bank account
  • Saving money on utilities
  • Maximising the household budget
  • Welfare benefits information

Word Power
Harness the power of words! In this course we’ll look at:

  • using words to persuade: job applications, appeals, getting people on your side, telling your own story
  • using words to entertain: songs, stories, jokes, games
  • improving spelling and grammar for those that want to
